Doris Mae Oulton was born in Barrhead, Alberta, Canada, on May 23, 1945. One of three daughters, she left home early after high school. Little is known about the troubled years after Oulton first set out, but her later activities are well documented. She revolutionized telecommunications across the Canadian North, helping people build broadcast skills in dozens of communities.
